Purpose: The questionnaire showed lower confidence in gamification and IoT/workplace sensors. This page provides simple explanations, Sri Lankan scenarios, and prompts for Session 2.

Part A — Gamification in HRM

Gamification means using game-like design elements to support motivation, learning, participation, and feedback. It does not mean turning work into a game or publicly shaming employees.

Avoid:

Return a table with day, mission, game mechanic, learning goal, HR support, and risk safeguard.

Part B — IoT and workplace sensors in HRM

IoT in a workplace context means devices and sensors that collect or share data from the physical environment. In HRM, this may connect to safety, attendance clarity, space planning, or wellbeing support. It can also become surveillance if poorly governed.

IoT ethics tribunal prompt

Scenario:
A fictional logistics company in Colombo wants to use smart ID cards and wearable safety bands to improve emergency response, attendance clarity, and workplace safety. Employees worry the data will be used for constant productivity monitoring.

Instructor facilitation cues

  • Use safety examples before productivity examples.
  • Ask: “Would employees understand and accept this if explained openly?”
  • Ask: “Could the same goal be achieved with less data?”
  • Emphasize that consent, proportionality, transparency, and appeal matter.
  • Connect IoT to employee dignity, not just efficiency.
